Janice Essam is a drummer, facilitator, and storyteller with a passion for rhythm as a source of connection, healing, and joy. She is the founder of JanJan Drumming, offering uplifting, inclusive drumming experiences for all ages and backgrounds.
With over 20 years of experience, Janice brings deep musical knowledge and a heart-led approach to her work. Her sessions blend rhythm with purpose, offering space for release, self-expression, and community.
Diagnosed with ADHD just weeks before her 60th birthday, Janice brings the power of lived experience to everything she does. Drumming has been a lifeline in her own journey, helping her manage stress, stay grounded, and thrive. Today, she shares that same tool with others—especially those navigating neurodiversity, trauma, or big life transitions.
Whether she’s drumming with toddlers, teens, professionals, or elders, Janice creates a safe, spirited space where everyone is welcome. Her sessions are infused with warmth, energy, and the simple, powerful belief that everyone has a beat, and every beat matters.
As a djembe player, I believe that the journey of exploring rhythm and technique never truly ends. Staying open to new ideas, traditions, and methods enriches my playing and teaching. I also believe that lifelong learning is essential in whatever you do in life. This commitment to growth ensures I continually evolve as a musician and share the deepest, most authentic drumming experience with my participants.
